  • Longtime California car

  • Subtly lowered front suspension for the perfect stance

95 bhp, 217.8 cu. in. L-head inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission with overdrive, independent front and solid axle rear suspension, and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 117 in.

Because Plymouth was busily planning the unveiling of its long-awaited new post-war models for 1949, the 1948 models remained largely unchanged, as they had since 1946. Numerous small changes were undertaken in the course of the year, but body, trim, and mechanical specifications remained essentially the same as in the previous season. It did not matter, as during the calendar year, Plymouth recorded sales of 378,048 cars during the booming post-war economy.

The Special DeLuxe Convertible offered here is believed to be a longtime California car and was purchased by its present owner in that state. Finished in Charlotte Ivory, it has been fitted in its current ownership with a new red leather interior, an upgrade over the original interior, and a new cloth top and trunk liner. In keeping with the Plymouth’s relatively economical status, it has few accessories other than an AM radio, a heater, overdrive, and wide whitewall tires.

The car has been subtly “stanced” with lowered front suspension, giving it a much more aggressive appearance that conceals its stock mechanical specifications and gives it a menacing, street rod-like appearance.
