Galpin Auto Sports, also known by the GAS moniker, is an American automobile dealership and automobile repair shop located in Van Nuys, California that has a long and strong reputation as a company that specializes in customizing and remodeling vehicles specifically to their respective owners specifications. They also provide spare parts to their valued customers as needed. The shop was founded in 1946 by Frank Galpin and later purchased by Bert Boeckmann.
Galpin Auto Sports is the garage featured on the USA television version of MTV's once-popular Pimp My Ride show hosted by Xzibit. The show was moved to GAS in the show’s fifth and sixth seasons. On site at the main garage is an extensive array of customized cars which can be bought direct from the garage.
GAS's work can also be seen on the new television show Knight Rider. They were asked to create the star of the show, a new version of the 2008 Ford Mustang called the GT 500KR. "GAS had one week to create the new KITT, and they pulled out all the stops. Six people worked full-time to create the Mustang that would be sent over to Picture Car Warehouse as the father of all the KITT derivatives and stunt cars."
"Galpinized" custom-designed vehicles have won national attention and awards. Galpin Motors is the number one volume Ford dealership in the world, and "the top California car dealer(s) with more than $700 million in annual sales", including well-known auto brands such as Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, Honda and Subaru.
According to the Galpin Auto Sports website, GAS’s long and reputable history also states that “Galpinizing” began when the conversion van industry was born. They led the way with the addition of paneling, carpets, refrigerators, port-o-lets, cabinets, folding couches into beds and more. The Galpinized “Surfer Van” was born and they soon were selling 150 units per month. Their influence has also been greatly felt in the process of introduction of the sunroof becoming commonplace. This also carried through with the four-wheel drive truck craze, and they are recognized as having saved the Mustang Convertible.
When Ford halted Mustang convertible production in 1980, Galpin built its own version and when Phillip Caldwell became Chairman of the Ford Motor Company, his first visit was to Galpin Ford. He was so properly impressed with the “Galpinized” Mustang, he requested it to be shipped to Dearborn and soon after, Ford was producing Mustang Convertibles again.
With this reputation for extremely well-received customs, it is a pleasure to offer this “Galpinized” 2012 edition of the Ford Mustang convertible. This is reported as a special vehicle built by Galpin Auto Sports that is impressive and aggressive in appearance, with all aspects reflected in a high-quality manner and is easily noticed for the professional nature of its build. It features a Blvd Customs wide body kit that includes components in the form of hood, front bumper, front fenders, doors, rear quarter panels, decklid spoiler and rear lower valance. A custom Alpine stereo, stainless steel quad-exhaust system, Forgiato wheels (21-inches in front / 22-inches in rear), black canvas soft-top, ventilated four-wheel discs and many luxury and convenience appointments are also found onboard.
A highly-respected industry insider has described the Ford as an “eyeball show-stopper.” This is a sinister looking machine that will be well-received at any showing or while being enjoyed on your favorite boulevard.
