The Fiat 124 Sport Spider is the one of the longest-lived models of the famous Turin manufacturer, initially conceived as a 1960s design by Tom Tjaarda on behalf of Pininfarina. The stylish convertible was based on Fiat’s shortened 124 platform, making for a compact and lithe 2+2 sports car that was built in Pinfinafina factories until production ended in 1985. With Fiat ceasing production of the 124 in 1982, Pininfarina continued to produce cars under the model names Spider Azzurra (North America) and Spidereuropa (European). All the Pininfarina-built cars featured US-style front and rear bumpers.

The Pininfarina Spidereuropa boasts the coachbuilder’s badge on its nose and the centre console wears a Spidereuropa emblem, but the core design is otherwise unchanged as an archetypal Italian two-seater. The Tipo 132 C3 031 engine was carried over from the model’s earlier application by Fiat, though with some tweaks to make for an increased 105 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. After the model was phased out, a true Fiat-badged Spider successor would not arrive until the Barchetta began production some 10 years later.

The example offered here was registered new in Germany in 1983. While the Spider’s early history is unknown, it is known to have been brought back to Italy in 2009, when it was acquired by The Sportiva Collection. In the ownership of the consignor, the Spidereuropa has been carefully maintained with regular servicing.
