The vehicle being offered, SPz-Kurz 11-2, serial number 776, was built in 1959. Nothing is known about its military service. This vehicle is in unrestored and original condition. It is in its original colors inside and out. The wheels and tracks are in good condition. The interior appears to be complete with the seats and gunner's controls in serviceable condition. The engine starts up and runs well. It drives very nicely and all driver's controls function normally. The engine runs via auxiliary fuel tank.
The SPz-Kurz 11-2 was designed as a reconnaissance vehicle and armored personnel carrier. It was a based on a French vehicle, the SP1A that was designed by the French company Hotchkiss. The West German Army had the SP1A modified to suit their needs, which included adding the 20-mm autocannon armed turret of the larger SPz 12-13 and lengthening the hull and adding an additional roadwheel.
Production of the SPz-Kurz 11-2 began in 1958. It entered service in the West German Army in 1959 and was used in reconnaissance units and as a fire support vehicle in motorized and armored infantry units.
Hotchkiss-Brandt of France originally built the hulls. However, a production line was soon opened in West German and operated by Klocker-Humboldt-Deutz. The turrets were produced by Kellr und Knappich. During a production run that spanned 4 years, 1,033 of the 20-mm armed vehicles were produced. In addition, another 1,341 specialty vehicles were built that included and armored ambulance version, mortar carrier, artillery observation vehicle and a battlefield radar carrier.
The SPz-Kurz 11-2 began to be replaced in the early 1970s with the introduction of the Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The last ones were phased out in 1982 and were replaced in reconnaissance units for the Luchs 8-wheeled armored car.
