The vehicle being offered, Centurion Mk 2 ARV is in original and unrestored condition. It is painted in its original British dark green and black camouflage. The exterior is in very good condition and may need a slight cosmetic clean up of some paint. The wheels and tracks are in very good condition. All stowage bins appear to be complete and intact. The interior is all original and appears to be complete. Some cosmetic clean up of the interior is required.
The Centurion Mk 2 ARV entered service with the British Army in the mid-1950s. It differed from the earlier Centurion ARV in that it had a built-up superstructure in place of the turret. Previous Centurion ARV's used a turretless hull. The Mk 2 was equipped with a winch and spade for recovery operations. The winch had a direct pull capacity of 30-tons. A Rolls-Royce B80 "Meteor" engine with a rating of 180-hp supplied power for the winch. The Meteor engine is the ground version of famous supercharged Merlin engine used in the Spitfire and Mustang fighter planes.
The Centurion Mk 2 ARV continued in British service into the 1970s until replaced by the larger Chieftain ARV series. It also saw service with the Australian, Dutch, Indian, Israeli, Swedish and Swiss armies.
