The vehicle being offered, FMC Armored Command and Reconnaissance Vehicle “Lynx”, was built by FMC. It is in original condition and needs a cosmetic restoration inside and out. It appears to have severe engine damage with a possible broken blower driveshaft. Compression is coming back through the blower. As the engine is a Detroit Diesel, repair parts are readily available. The commander's cupola is missing.

Using the M113 for the base components, FMC presented a new armored command and reconnaissance vehicle in 1963. Using the same diesel engine as the M113, the new vehicle was often called the M113A1-1/2. It was smaller than the M113A1 and had a crew of three: driver, commander and observer/scout. The driver sat at the left front of the vehicle with the observer at the right front. The commander was provided with a cupola in the center of the vehicle that was armed with a .50-cal machine gun. Access to the vehicle was through a door provided on the right hand side of the hull.

Due to the U.S. Army having already adopted the M114, FMC did not sell any to the U.S. However, both the Dutch and Canadian armies took interest in the vehicle with the Dutch ordering 260 of them. The first Dutch vehicles were delivered in September 1966. The Canadian order was for 174 vehicles with the last of them being delivered in October 1968. In its Canadian form, the observer was relocated to a position behind the driver in the left side of the hull. The Canadians called their vehicle the Lynx.

All these vehicles have now been retired from both the Dutch and Canadian armies having been replaced with wheeled armored vehicles such as the Grizzly.
