Model year 1953 brought big news; it was the 50th anniversary of Buick production and the year in which a new V-8 engine was introduced for the Super and Roadmaster models. The year saw Buick produce their seven millionth car, but the biggest feather in their cap was surely the introduction of the exclusive and limited production sport convertible model – the Skylark.

The new V-8 engine utilized in the Skylark displaced 322 cubic inches and developed 188 horsepower and runs with dual exhaust. The standard issue transmission for the Skylark was the Dynaflow automatic. Built on the 121.5-inch wheelbase chassis of the Roadmater, the Skylark weighed in at 4,315 pounds; the car cost just less than $5,000 and had a production of only 1,690 units. Distinctively, it was the only Buick of the Venti Port era to not carry this design feature on its front fender flanks. Buick produced 13 models during 1953 and placed fourth in sales within the industry having accounted for approximately 485,000 total units; a further illustration of just how few of these cars were built.

The 40-spoke Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels were also standard equipment and add to the stunning appearance of this particular car. Finished in a factory-spec color of Mandarin Red with a black soft-top, the Skylark has a white with matching red two-tone interior that creates the luxury this car has always surrounded its occupants with.
