The first year of Series III Metropolitan production was in 1955. In addition to the transition of the 1.2-liter Austin engine to the 1.5-liter inline four BMC unit; the Metropolitan received a complete cosmetic makeover. The polished stainless steel spears were added to the body to incorporate two colors if desired and a new grille was added.
