Whereas recent Lamborghinis have traditionally been named after fighting bulls, the word Countach has its origins as a phrase used by Piedmontese men to describe laying eyes upon a beautiful woman. It is easy to understand why Lamborghini named their groundbreaking supercar Countach in 1974. Few automobiles have caused such a stir, and the man responsible for the outrageous design was Marcello Gandini of Bertone, the same man who penned the Miura. Gandini had free rein with the Countach, and the result was one of the most striking cars of the twentieth century.

This 1979 Lamborghini Countach is one of just fifty LP400 S built in the first series of production. The odometer shows just 13,800 km, which is believed to be original. Delivered in a stunning blue-over-blue-and-cream colour scheme, this LP400 S is presented in highly original condition. Owned by the consignor for nearly 33 years and having remained in static storage for nearly his entire ownership, photos of the car upon Mr Petitjean’s purchase show that remains unchanged today. On comprend facilement pourquoi Lamborghini a ainsi dénommé en 1974 sa supercar révolutionnaire. Rares sont les voitures qui ont causé un tel émoi ; la responsabilité de celui-ci revenait au dessin incroyable de Marcello Gandini, l'homme de Bertone à qui l'on devait déjà la Miura. On lui avait laissé libre cours pour la Countach, et il en était résulté l'une des voitures les plus saisissantes du vingtième siècle.
