The depression of the 1930’s caused businesses to cut costs wherever possible. To help car repair shops remain profitable, Indian developed the Dispatch Tow, a three-wheeled motorcycle that could easily be clamped to the rear bumper of a car. With the Dispatch Tow, a car could be picked up and brought to a garage or service center by only one person, saving a significant amount of time and money. One employee could drive the Dispatch Tow to the vehicle that needed to be picked up, hook the Dispatch Tow to the rear bumper, and drive both back to the garage himself.
This Dispatch Tow Trike was purchased from a museum that owned it for many years. The museum fully restored the trike in the 1990s and it presents very well today in light blue with black seats. Every part of the trike was attended to during the restoration and it is in virtually new condition today. It has recently been re-commissioned by a noted Indian Specialist and is ready for regular use or the show field. This would be an interesting addition for the motorcycle collector who appreciates unusual and historically significant designs.
