When you saw this model of Mercedes-Benz in movies and on television during the mid-1970s, the 450SL was symbolic for those who had “arrived.” They were often shown pulling up to the finest restaurants and gallerias, or driving down palm-lined boulevards or the most picturesque coastline. In real life, it was often seen in similar settings; its solid reputation translates to the driving experience; at speed the car is light on its feet and well controlled, plus the firm seats are wonderful on long trips. The sense of sporting elegance is in abundance.

Along with the reliable 4.5-liter V-8 engine the car is equipped with many factory standards such as air conditioning, power windows, burl-wood accents and the indestructible MB-Tex interior. This blue example is fitted with a cream interior and has experienced and excellent and correct restoration that includes a new top with the original interior and major underbody restoration. It is reported to show no rust and drives in an excellent manner. The only modification is the battery was repositioned in the trunk. The radio was also changed to a late model Pioneer that fit into the factory cutout and can easily be refitted with an original-spec unit.

All of the work executed on the 450SL was completed by Mercedes-Benz technicians and restoration specialists. It is reported that the current owner has limited paperwork on the restoration, but there is all of the original owner’s manuals and extensive receipts.

The original removable hardtop (which was standard fare for U.S. models) is in the correct color, as well as having a stand for storage when off the car. A cover also comes with the vehicle. Other features include cruise control, power windows, power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes. The current owner states that nothing was spared in this restoration, and it is an excellent high end example that would make an ultimate touring vehicle.
