Please note that this lot is titled as a 1973.

The 1973 model year marked the final production of the classic “long-hood” Porsche 911, as new legislation enacted in the United States would necessitate the installation of more robust impact bumpers and bring about the G-body 911 era. Prior to this development, Porsche had introduced several updates to their famed rear-engine sports car, which included mechanical fuel injection on “E” and “S” models, the “915” H-pattern gearbox, and the 2.4 liter flat-six.

In the North American market, mid-year 1973 911 T models carried the unique distinction of featuring Bosch’s K-Jetronic fuel-injection (unlike their carbureted world-market siblings). As such, these “1973 1/2” 911s are particularly sought-after by marque aficionados, as they combine the best of classic 911 styling with a highly regarded fuel-injection system.

Said to have been restored using mostly original parts and with just 28,189 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging, this Porsche 911 T 2.4 Targa is a fine example of this rare specification of the famed sports car model, made even more appealing by the presence of its numbers-matching engine. Finished in the uncommon shade of Aubergine, the dark purple exterior well represents the color-rich world of the early 1970s. Inside, black leatherette covers the seats. Additionally, this vehicle features the desirable five-speed transmission, Fuchs alloy wheels, and an AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, which is reported to still function.

Documents on file indicate that it spent its early years in the care of two Alabama-based owners. Its accompanying warranty book records routine service up to the 10,000-mile maintenance and lubrication appointment, which occurred in May 1979 at Berlin Porsche Audi, Inc. of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Much more recently, in October 2019, Porsche of Hilton Head, South Carolina serviced the gauges, repaired the high beam flasher switch, and adjusted the fuel trim. The seat rails were also cleaned and lubricated at this time. All together, this invoice totals to $2,672. In January 2022, the vehicle had new spark plugs installed by the same dealer. In 2021, the car’s distinctive Aubergine exterior was treated to remove apparent flaws in the finish, and now shows with deep gloss and vibrant color.

Offering the best of long-hood Porsche style and Bosch fuel-injection, this 1973½ 911 T 2.4 Targa is accompanied by owner’s manuals, tool roll, and jack; it is documented by its warranty book and a binder of service records, as well as a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
