Shortly after the arrival of the stunning V-16 in 1930, Cadillac followed up its masterstroke with the introduction of a V-12 engine based on the same overhead-valve architecture designed by Owen Nacker. These two prestigious multi-cylinder models cemented Cadillac’s status as America’s premier luxury automobile manufacturer. Neatly positioned in the middle of the range, the Series 370 V-12 offered superior power and refinement over the eight, while being lighter and more sporting than the V-16. Styling came courtesy of Harley Earl’s recently formed Art and Colour department, with all standard catalogued bodies constructed by GM subsidiaries Fisher or Fleetwood. All cars had luxurious Fleetwood-trimmed interiors. Today, as it was in period, the Cadillac Series 370 V-12 is one of the most desirable Classic Era American motor cars, with sophistication and prestige in abundance.
This Cadillac Series 370 Phaeton is a rare surviving example benefitting from a superb restoration and is finished in striking colors. Verified by factory build records, this is believed to be one of only a few known surviving Fleetwood Phaetons built on the Series 370 chassis. Presented in excellent condition, it has enjoyed long-term care in the hands of a series of passionate, knowledgeable collectors. Following its concours-quality restoration, the car earned numerous accolades, including an AACA Grand National First Prize in 1998, a Senior Award at the 2002 Cadillac LaSalle Club national meet, and a CCCA Senior award. It features numerous desirable accessories, including dual Pilot-Ray driving lamps, goddess mascot, dual side-mount spare wheels, and a color-matched Cadillac accessory trunk. This rare and stylish Cadillac remains in wonderful condition, with the gently matured restoration still appearing crisp and well-detailed, a prime example for continued show or on-road enjoyment on CCCA CARavan tours or similar events.
