The owner relates that he purchased this truck in 2010 from a retail hardware store owner who had restored the vehicle around 1990. During the interim the truck was used for display purposes in the hardware store in Champaign, Illinois. The truck is reported to have previously been owned by a building contractor, also located in Illinois.
The dump truck has a functioning handcrank that raises the bed quite easily. The truck has been fitted with (by the current owner) a stock-type frame of white maple for the purpose of allowing younger children to sit in rows in the bed; accompanied by a ladder for climbing.
The truck is certified as a one-ton dump; it is reported as easy to start with its new battery. The Ford is powered by a "regular Model A engine", but it is geared very low to handle heavy loads. The cruising speed is around 35-mph and there is a trailer hitch for towing. The owner enjoyed the Ford in various parades and "for coffee runs."
