This unique Cadillac-based automobile is created upon designs that were penned by the legendary Harley Earl and were executed in very limited numbers by the Cadillac division of General Motors during the 1950s, the most well-known being the Cyclone. An article about these select cars was published in Hemmings Classic Car in December 2008, and points out that the eventual Allante production was thanks to these design exercises. This is a true one-off car with Cadillac components, but does not have any association with being a factory Cadillac prototype.

This car was produced to exacting standards in the early 1990s by well-respected Ohio coachbuilder C. Budd Bayliff; possibly best known for creating custom coachwork for classic Packard automobiles and modifying modern cars into his vision of what a modern Packard may look like. For a time, Mr. Bayliff held the exclusive rights to the Packard Motor Car Company name as well as the stylized Packard script. He used Harley Earl designs as inspiration to custom-build this one-of-a-kind Cadillac. The current owner commissioned Mr. Bayliff to construct this car and has been its only owner since completion.

The vehicle has its original 390-cid V-8 Cadillac engine that makes 315 horsepower with dual four-barrel carburetors and is paired to an automatic transmission. Other equipment includes power windows, steering and brakes; as well as a power-assisted convertible top. When the soft-top is lowered, it is completely concealed beneath a flush-fitting lid (or tonneau, if you prefer) as seen on the Buick Y-Job and the 1951 General Motors Le Sabre; both unique concept cars and designed by Harley Earl. Like the factory-produced Special Roadsters, this car has been shortened and lowered from the stock dimensions and the cockpit has room for three passengers on its single bench seat. The interior has custom leather and air conditioning is also a part of the package. All components are said to be in excellent working order. It rides on chrome wire wheels and has been driven less than 1,200 miles since completion. The Cadillac Special Roadster has been carefully and properly stored in a climate controlled building.
