In 2004 the Ford Motor Company Produced its 300 millionth vehicle. The car was a 2004 Ford Mustang GT convertible finished in a special edition Crimson Red paint, Tan top and leather seating. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition offered here has the distinction of being the 300 millionth car produced by Ford. Then chairman and CEO, Bill Ford, drove this vehicle off the line in 2004 commemorating the historical event, telling his employees “It’s no secret to any of you that this is my favorite car in the world.” This car was part of a 40 city tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Mustang.
The Mustang has been the longest produced “pony car,” and 2004 would not only mark the 40th anniversary, but the last year for this body style. This special Mustang is equipped with a V-8 with dual exhaust backed by an automatic transmission and has less than 1,000 actual miles. This convertible is well-equipped with air conditioning, five-spoke wheels, AM/FM radio; power steering, brakes, windows and top.
“When the company built its one millionth car, my great-grandfather Henry Ford said, ‘A million of anything is a great many,’” Bill Ford said. “He would be very proud that his company produced 300 million vehicles. Other vehicle production milestones at Ford were 20 millionth vehicle in 1931, 50 millionth in 1959,100 millionth in 1977 and 250 millionth in 1996. As Ford began to acquire other car makes such as Volvo and Jaguar, their production numbers added to Fords final tally.
