In addition to being one of the “Golden Rocket” Oldsmobiles built for 1957 to commemorate GM’s 50th anniversary, this very special, three-owner 88 Convertible coupe carries a wonderful and completely documented history. The current owner, who was seeking a classic Oldsmobile as a birthday present for his father during the early-1990s, was alerted to the existence of a one-owner 88 in Glens Falls, New York, which was purchased new by Edward and Margery Hammond in 1957.

Never winter-driven and always garage-kept, the car was sold by Mrs. Hammond to the previous owner; a lengthy correspondence followed the sale and eventually Mrs. Hammond located and returned the original bill of sale and license plate. The Olds was returned to running order and eventually given a complete frame-off restoration by Thornton Auto Works, of Telford, Pennsylvania, which was completed in 2005. The tally including acquisition, cosmetic and mechanical restoration, and the addition of the J-2 carburetor intake stands at $125,000. The car is offered today by its third owners, a prominent Michigan-based collection that includes some of the finest automobiles in the world.

Complete with restoration and service records, the 88 is a terrific example that can be shown and enjoyed with pride by the new owner. The only cosmetic blemishes noted are recent, which are small paint chips on the passenger side door and some rust noted under the side-view mirror. A remarkable historical file accompanies the car as well. Desirable additional items include a custom cover and added seat belts. Lovely in presentation, this Olds 88 is now ready for a new long-term caretaker.
