Ford’s new Thunderbird was introduced in 1955, and it quickly proved to be a tremendous success. These were excellent vehicles for cruising America’s new interstate highways, as they were equipped with power steering, brakes, and windows and a four-way seat as standard. Over 16,000 examples were produced in the car’s first year, which was clearly a result of the car’s performance, creature comforts, and overall quality, as only 700 Corvettes, the Thunderbird’s main rival, were sold that year.

This example was the 326th Thunderbird constructed. It was built on January 29, 1955, and then delivered new to Los Angeles. It is beautifully finished in Torch Red with a matching red and white interior and has been part of Mr. Pack’s collection since the late 1990s. In addition to an engine dress-up kit, this early Thunderbird also boasts a desirable Continental kit, and the look is completed by wire wheels that are shod in whitewall tires. It is also important to note that this car has been upgraded with a modern stereo with a cassette player, and it features aftermarket air conditioning. This ideal driver boasts many power conveniences, along with aftermarket air conditioning, and it exudes 1950s style.
