  • Wonderfully equipped for touring; Documented by its original factory invoice

245 bhp, 312 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine with a single four-barrel carburetor, two-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission, independent wishbone front suspension, live rear axle, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 102 in.

Ford updated the Thunderbird in 1957 with a number of significant styling changes. These included a larger front grille, new bumpers in the front and rear, 14-inch wheels, which replaced the 15-inch wheels of 1956, a round-dial instrument cluster from 1956 Fords, and subtle tail fins, to give the car a dash of jet-age styling. To those looking to take their new Thunderbirds on road trips across America, the spare tire was relocated to the trunk and the rear body was lengthened by about six inches, resulting in a larger trunk to hold more luggage.

According to both its trim tag and factory invoice, the 1957 Thunderbird presented here was finished in Raven Black with a matching Black and White interior and shipped to Doenges Motors Inc., of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The car was outfitted for touring, as it had the 245-horsepower overhead-valve V-8, which was mated to a two-speed Ford transmission, and it was also equipped with a Town & Country AM radio, a heater, and a defroster.

This car was purchased by Mr. Pack in nearby Grapevine, Texas, in 1998, and it presents very well, sitting on its Kelsey Hayes wire wheels. It would certainly make for a wonderful cruiser to local car shows and events.
