Type 930. 282 bhp, 3,299 cc SOHC horizontally opposed air-cooled six-cylinder engine with a single turbocharger and Bosch electronic fuel injection, four-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension, and ventilated and cross-drilled power disc brakes. Wheelbase: 89.4 in.
After a six-year absence, the venerable 930 returned to Porsche’s line-up in 1986. It again became their top-of-the-line 911 and delivered with it very impressive performance. With a new Bosch DMR engine management system and an oxygen sensor, the Type 930/68 3.3-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine produced a healthy 282 horsepower, enough to launch the car to 60 mph from a standing start in just 4.6 seconds and to a top speed of almost 160 mph. Only 1,424 U.S.-specification 911 Turbos were built for that model year.
Offered here is a beautiful two-owner G-Program 911 Turbo that appears as fresh as the day it left the factory. It was delivered new to a broker in Beaumont, Minnesota, on April 30, 1986, and within two months, it had been purchased by and registered to Dr. Wilson Strang M.D., of Marion, Iowa. Dr. Strang loved his new black Turbo but apparently didn’t drive it very much. Still, it caught the attention of one of his friends in the medical community, Dr. Steven Jacobs M.D., of neighboring Cedar Rapids. Dr. Jacobs admired the car so much that he persuaded his colleague to sell it to him. After much persistence, he acquired the Turbo on June 28, 1993. Dr. Jacobs also drove this lovely Coupe on limited occasions, as the car had been driven only 10,800 miles by March 16, 1995. In its current ownership, this stunning Turbo Coupe now shows only 24,367 original miles and is cosmetically spotless. The consignor tested every body panel with a paint meter, which showed consistent paint thickness of .35 to less than .5 mil, proof that the car’s paint is all original and has never been damaged, repaired, or repainted.
The 911 Turbo was lavishly equipped with just about every convenience an owner could desire. Along with a long list of standard equipment, which includes electric window lifts and air conditioning, this example is factory-equipped with a limited-slip differential, an electric sunroof, a full black leather interior with a black headliner, a raised-hub steering wheel, a Blaupunkt Monterey multi-speaker stereo system, dual windshield washers, a pair of fog lamps integrated into the front valance, electrically controlled heatable dual outside mirrors, a rear window wiper, wheel locks, and an integrated security alarm system. Sixteen-inch diameter anodized Fuchs light alloy wheels with black-painted centers are fitted at all four corners, and for 1986, the rear wheels were widened to nine inches, carrying 245/45 VR tires. This car has a clean history from both CARFAX and Autocheck. It is utterly unmolested, even retaining its as-delivered ride height.
Recently detailed from top to bottom, this is one of the nicest and most original 911 Turbos we have seen, showing virtually no signs of wear. It is supplied with its original spare wheel, jack, tool kit, manuals, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. For the Porsche enthusiast desiring a pristine example of a low-mileage air-cooled 911 Turbo Coupe with a long list of desirable options, here is a great opportunity.
