To appreciate the magnificent 599 GTB Fiorano, it is perhaps best to compare it to its spiritual predecessor, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. Both cars are front engine V-12 GTs with exotic pedigree. The Daytona, as beautiful as it was fast, produced 0-60 mph times of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h (173 mph). Some forty years later, the 599 GTB sprints from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, whilst offering a top speed in excess of 330 km/h! Taking its name from the Fiorano race circuit, the Gran Turismo Berlinetta pays homage to Ferrari’s past.

The 599 GTB is equipped with Ferrari’s latest F1-style sequential electronic gearbox, referred to as “Superfast”, aptly named as it ticks off shifts using the steering wheel paddles in only 100 milliseconds. Power is supplied by a 5,999 cc front-engine V-12, producing a massive 620 horsepower. At the time of introduction, it was Ferrari’s most powerful street engine offered. Also included is Ferrari’s SCM Magnetorheological Suspension System, which has been used on a Ferrari road car for the first time. It is capable of reacting 10 times faster than a conventional electronic suspension system, aiding in high-performance handling. Another first is Ferrari’s F1-Trac, a traction control and launch control system previously enjoyed only by Ferrari’s F1 drivers.

The 599 GTB offered here wears a Charcoal Gray exterior with a luxurious beige leather interior. It is equipped with optional ceramic brakes, a Bose sound system, 20-inch wheels and embossed car emblems. With just two owners from new, it has only travelled 8,000 kilometres since delivery. In all, the 599 GTB is a remarkable automobile and a spectacular example of forty years of supercar progress.
