The year 1930 may well have been the finest one for Ford’s Model A. Its 21-inch wheels were replaced by 19-inch ones that sported larger tires. This made for a more stylish appearance while also lowering the car’s center of gravity, thereby improving handling on America’s rapidly improving roads. Additionally, wider fenders and a deeper radiator shell, both inspired by Lincoln, contributed to a revised, more refined look. These changes, coupled with various engine, transmission, and braking improvements, made the Model A obviously more appealing than its agricultural Model T predecessors.
The handsome Open Cab Pickup offered here was acquired by Mr. Day here at Hershey. It has received an excellent, high-quality restoration and, at the time of cataloguing, has been driven only nine miles since its completion. As would be expected, its Apple Green and black paint, panel finish, and interior woodwork are all in excellent condition, as are its new black leather upholstery and rubber floor mat. Its undercarriage is described by an RM specialist as being “perfect—the underside of the floors are spotless.” Equipment on the car includes green wire wheels that are shod in Firestone wide whitewall bias-ply tires, the optional radiator stone guard, and a removable fabric top that is in very good condition.
Few extant Model A trucks have been finished to this level, making this Open Cab Pickup a desirable addition to any collection of heavy haulers.
