The new F-1 pickup truck of 1948 was an important vehicle for Ford. Not only was it Ford’s first new post-war vehicle, but it was also one of the first pickup trucks to be designed with both practicality and aesthetics in mind. Combining a stylish body with incredible functionality and practicality, this was a truck that would be as comfortable driving down Main Street as it would be working on the farm.

The second generation of the F-1 was introduced in 1953, and it was named the F100. The year 1954 introduced a host of changes, with the most evident of which being the new “strut-mounted” grille design. One notable option that was now available with the second generation of Ford’s most notable pickup was the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, which was offered alongside a plethora of manual transmission options. Ford also bored their older 215-cubic inch engine out to a total displacement of 223 cubic inches. The year 1954 also heralded the introduction of the optional “Power King” V-8 engine to the F100.

According to its chassis number, this F100 was built at Ford’s Memphis, Tennessee, factory in 1954, and it was equipped with the new 223-cubic inch straight six engine, which it is offered with today. This F100 is the recipient of a recent, full, ground-up restoration, and it wears a repaint of its original shade of Sea-Haze Green, which suits this pickup well. The engine bay is in incredible, fully detailed condition, and it shows almost no signs of wear. The tires are the period-correct whitewall bias plys, and it is equipped with a side-mounted spare. Overall, the truck presents well in restored original condition, with the exception of a 12-volt converter that replaced the standard 6-volt unit. This wonderful Pickup is regularly exercised throughout the summer months by its current owner, and it is reported to drive as good as it looks.

This F100 is in fantastic condition, and it surely would be a joy to own. As the vehicle that started Ford’s famous line of F-Series pickup trucks, the F100 holds an important place in automotive history, and this F100 is an early model of what has become the best-selling pickup truck in America for the last 30 years.
