The year 1949 was an important one for GM’s Pontiac division, with a pair of important milestones achieved, including the release of its first all-new line of post-war models and the production of the three-millionth Pontiac made since the marque’s 1926 debut. This 1949 Pontiac Streamliner Sedan Delivery is an attractive and rarely seen example from that highly successful year. In 1995, it was acquired by noted collector John McMullen and immediately sent to Silver Dollar Restorations in Florida for a thorough cosmetic restoration. There, the craftsmen removed all chrome and brightwork for restoration, the windows were removed, and all body panels and gaps were carefully checked for consistency. The resulting high-quality maroon paint work remains excellent today, complemented by a restored interior featuring grey vinyl bucket seats, matching door panels, a new rubber floor mat, and a grey mohair headliner. The cargo area was fitted with a full-length, pebble grain, rubber floor mat, while the sidewalls and wheel wells were upholstered in grey vinyl.
As offered now from the current owner, this highly distinctive vehicle remains exceptionally attractive. In 2011, the engine was removed and it, along with the clutch and the entire driveline, were completely rebuilt. During the process, all mechanical components and engine accessories were completely gone through, with everything dismantled and either machined or replaced with new components. Accordingly, the current owner reports that the vehicle runs and drives great. Another great touch is the recently hand-painted “Pontiac Service” livery on the side panels, complete with Pontiac’s iconic “Chief” symbol. Distinctive, well-restored, and properly maintained, this smooth-running 1949 Pontiac Streamliner Sedan Delivery is also offered complete with documentation of the work performed under the current owner.
