Ford officials fielded a growing number of complaint letters in the early ’60s, urging a return of the beloved two-seat roadster. In response, Ford designer Bud Kaufman came up with a removable fiberglass tonneau that concealed the Thunderbird convertible’s rear seats and provided a headrest for the front seats. Initially a dealer-installed item, the tonneau cover became a regular production item near the end of 1961. This beautiful Thunderbird represents the last year for the famous "Rocket Bird" body style and is one of only 5,913 built. It has the desirable sport roadster tonneau that installs over the rear seats, making it a true two-seat roadster. This car has been very well restored in original Diamond Blue over blue interior, which looks great with the power seat, power windows, AM radio, swing away steering wheel, and power operated convertible top. It has been fully restored to judging standards from top to bottom.
