Chrysler Corporation made automotive history when it premiered the Airflow at the New York Auto Show in January 1934; it was a radical departure from anything that preceded it. In addition to its streamlined, Art Deco looks, the car was bursting with technical ingenuity: a novel beam and truss design combining light weight and superb strength (a precursor to the unibody); an enormous interior with 50-in. wide chair-height seats; for the first time in an automobile, a rear seat situated forward of the rear axle, offering unprecedented room; and an engine placed over the front axle 20 in. further forward than it did in other Chryslers, making for a very spacious front seat. Passengers sat within the wheelbase, resulting in a remarkably smooth ride.

After 50 years spent in a museum, the 1936 Imperial Airflow sedan offered here was restored in 2013 to concours quality, in the correct shade of Del Monte Beige Metallic with period-correct fender skirts, dual taillights, exhaust extension, Appleton fog lights, artillery-type wheels, and wide whitewall tires, and it presents superbly throughout. The interior is finished in correct tan cloth with proper finishes to the dashboard and window surrounds, as well as a genuine Airflow banjo steering wheel, a radio, a heater, and a Trico defroster, all restored to the original specification. The fully detailed, correct engine compartment features the rare Airflow-specific alloy cylinder head, with NOS Champion H10 spark plugs.

A winner of numerous concours awards, this is truly one of the finest Airflows in the world.
