In 1975, Porsche introduced its first production turbocharged 911 in Europe and in 1976 brought the model to North America. Designated internally as the Type 930, the "Turbo" evolved continuously, advancing in power and style until its final year in 1989. The engine, initially a 3.0-liter six-cylinder, had by 1986 morphed into a potent 3.3-liter, 282-hp mill. The car humbled the competition with a 0-60 mph time under five seconds, and a top speed of approximately 160 mph. Bodywork featured a whale-tail rear spoiler and flared fenders that gave the car a confident stance. In 1987, Porsche introduced a Targa version of the venerable Turbo.

This Porsche 911 Turbo Targa is a rare example of a well-bred sports machine. Only 105 five-speed transmission 911 Turbo Targas were produced in 1989, of which just 45 were sent to the U.S.

The consignor acquired this Turbo in 2011. The previous owner gave the car a meticulous restoration and refinished it in the original shade of Velvet Red Metallic. The new owner, a dedicated collector, continued the aesthetic work restoring the targa panels and engaging San Diego Porsche specialists Autobahn Interiors for new Linen leather seating and black carpeting and headliner, as per original. The car presents beautifully and recently competed at the Pinehurst Concours. The owner reports that the 911 is in excellent running order, has been conscientiously maintained, and has been stored in a climate-controlled facility. It should be noted that CARFAX reports an accident early in its life in 1992. This Turbo Targa is equipped with an array of options, including short-shift gear lever, limited-slip differential, power-adjustable heated sport seats, a Blaupunkt Reno radio with amplifier, and air conditioning.

Complete with its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original factory window stickers, owner's manual, and tool set, this 911 Turbo Targa epitomizes comfortable, turbocharged performance.
