Franklin was the archetypal air-cooled American automobile, built in Syracuse, New York from 1902 to 1934. Early models, like this 1906 Type E runabout, used a transverse engine that drove the rear axle with a single chain. This architecture gave the finned engine cylinders maximum exposure to oncoming air, and thus, optimum cooling.

The car is bright red with a varnished wood dashboard and wood-spoke wheels. The black leather seating shows wear and tear to the passenger side, but the driver’s seat is sound. The brass side lamps are both in very good condition and a compact brass bulb horn is fitted at the driver’s right hand. Ideal for veteran touring, this Franklin is sure to please.
