Chevrolet marked the Corvette’s pacing of the 1978 Indianapolis 500 by building the public 6,200 Limited Edition Indy Pace Car Replicas, featuring special paint and unique decals, replicating the Pace Car’s color scheme, as well as the 220-hp L82 V-8 and full leather interior as standard equipment.

The car offered here was bought new by the current owner’s family on 23 May 1978, from Doran Chevrolet of Dallas, Texas, only four days after the purchase of their other Indy Pace Car Replica. Like that car it was bought with delivery miles – eight, to be exact – and trucked home to their collection, where it has remained since, preserved as a collector’s item. Today recording eight miles at the time of cataloguing, it still has the factory plastic on the steering wheel and the protective paper on the carpets, and is believed to have not been shown in public since delivery. Obviously preserved very much as-delivered, it is accompanied by its original sales and delivery paperwork, as well as an owner’s manual, warranty and maintenance brochures, and Texas registrations through 1982.
