The 1960 Edsels were introduced on 15 October 1959 – and the 1960 Edsels were discontinued on 19 November 1959. Total production lasted for barely three months, and the total model year output was just 2,846 cars. The upside to this sad end to the Edsel story was that all 1960 Edsel automobiles were incredibly rare from the moment they were born. Some were, of course, rarer than others, and this 1960 Ranger hardtop sedan represents one of fewer than 30 known survivors of a mere 135 built. Even more special, it is serial no. 0001, the very first 1960 Edsel produced. Bought new by the Vice President of Parts for the Ford Motor Company, it was acquired from him by the current owner, who undertook a high-quality, multi-year restoration, completed in 2001. The result is spectacular and deserving of “The First of the Last.”
