To compete with the factory limousines offered by both Cadillac and Chrysler, in 1959 and 1960 Lincoln offered a Continental formal sedan and limousine, built to order by Ohio coachbuilders Hess & Eisenhardt, the same shop that built U.S. Presidential limousines. These cars were based upon standard Continental sedans, but were outfitted with padded formal rooflines, more luxurious custom interior fittings, and, in the case of the limousine, a division window.

The Calumet Collection’s example was one of only 34 limousines produced in 1960, and was reportedly one of 13 fitted with dual air conditioning units – separate systems for both the front and rear compartments – as well as front and rear push-button radios, and power windows. According to Hess & Eisenhardt historian Thomas McPherson, these are identical to features used on a car supplied to the Kennedy Administration. Part of the Collection since 2005, it was immaculately restored over a two-year period by their own in-house restoration facility, and has since won several awards at Southern California concours d’elegance. Undoubtedly it is among the finest surviving examples of this extraordinarily rare model, and certainly one of the few available for sale.
