The GMC Blue Chip Series range of trucks introduced for the 1955 model year was an upmarket alternative to the more workaday Chevrolet Task Force, also introduced that year. They featured an all-new appearance and more than 500 improvements over their predecessors, with larger cabs that provided better comfort, convenience, and visibility. A wrap-around, one-piece windshield and A-pillars that slanted back toward the bottom lent a modern look. A wide range of light- and heavy-duty models included commercial variants. While in-line six-cylinder engines remained standard, 1956 became the first year that GMC would offer a V-8 engine in its trucks. Many models also came standard with Hydra-Matic transmissions, while tubeless tires became standard on 100 series trucks.

A Matched Set

This well-documented, high-quality half-ton GMC Series 100 step-side appears to have spent most of its life in California, based on registration documents and anecdotal information. It came from the factory loaded with nearly every conceivable option, including the higher-performance 336 cubic-inch V-8 engine paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Among its long list of desirable factory features are power steering, a front sway bar, dual gas tanks, side-mounted spare, full gauge set, dual outside mirrors, armrests, sun visors, and Autronic Eye auto-dimming headlights. It has also been fitted with an aftermarket audio setup that includes an iPod connection and Infinity speakers.

Included in the sale is a matching 1959 Harley-Davidson Hummer motorcycle. The Hummer was based on the German DKW RT125 and was built from 1955 to 1959. It features an air-cooled, two-cycle, single-cylinder motor, a three-speed transmission, five-inch drum brakes, and 19-inch wheels.

Both truck and motorcycle have previously been restored down to their nuts and bolts, the benefits of which are evident in the luster of the matching two-tone paint and other details. They are accompanied by binders with documentation from the restorations and memorabilia.
