For the first running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the new millennium, the ACO commissioned two flags to conduct the ceremonial starting of the race. The flag used to commence the start of the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans was waved by the famous former driver Jacky Ickx, and he was gifted that item following the race. This was the first time that an Audi car claimed victory at the famous French endurance event. After the 2000 edition, outgoing Race Director, Marcel Martin—who had spent over 20 years working for the ACO—was presented with this official second starting flag as a retirement gift.
The flag remained in Monsieur Martin’s care until he passed away in 2018. It was later acquired by the consignor and displayed in his collection. Almost all the other Le Mans starting flags are in the care of the ACO in its museum archives.
This genuine starting flag from the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans would be the pinnacle of any motorsport enthusiast’s collection.
Für die erste Ausgabe der 24 Stunden von Le Mans im neuen Jahrtausend hatte der ACO zwei Flaggen für den zeremoniellen Start des Rennens bestellt. Zum Start des Rennens schwenkte der berühmte Rennfahrer Jacky Ickx eine Flagge, die ihm anschließend als Geschenk überlassen wurde. Nach dem Rennen, bei dem zum ersten Mal ein Audi siegreich war, wurde Renndirektor Marcel Martin, der 20 Jahre für den ACO gearbeitet hatte, mit dieser offiziellen Flagge als Ruhestandsgeschenk bedacht.
Sie blieb im Besitz von Monsieur Martin bis zu seinem Ableben im Jahr 2018. Anschließend erwarb der Einlieferer die Flagge und fügte sie seiner Sammlung zu. Fast alle Starterflaggen des Rennens in Le Mans befinden sich im Besitz des ACO und den Archiven seines Museums.
Diese authentische Starterflagge von den 24 Stunden von Le Mans im Jahr 2000 würde einen außergewöhnlichen Höhepunkt jeder Motorsportsammlung darstellen.
