The Mehari was marketed to beach communities in Hawaii, Florida and California believing that it would be a big hit with its plastic body and two-cylinder air-cooled engine. Budget Rent-A-Car bought a number of them and offered them as rentals in Hawaii. Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California used them as groundskeepers cars throughout the 1970s. The rest went to budget-minded customers attracted to its youthful and fun image. This one is reported as ready for restoration or to be used as a parts donor.
