Few cars have enjoyed the popularity or exerted such a strong influence on sports car ownership and amateur racing as the MG. Starting with the TA in 1936, the MG T-Series opened a whole new world of affordable enjoyment to auto enthusiasts.

Unveiled in 1953 as the successor to the TD, the TF was powered by the same XPAG 1,250-cc engine with a slight increase in horsepower and a substantial improvement in acceleration. With a raked radiator, revised bonnet and repositioned headlamps, the TF was substantially different from its predecessor yet received very positive reviews. Road & Track declared, “after last year’s test we asked if the TF was really that good. It is, and more. Even though the MG is the lowest priced sports car on the market, it is the accepted standard of comparison.” Ultimately, the debut of the MGA in 1957 marked a complete departure for the company, and the TF therefore represents the final evolution of MG’s iconic early design legacy.

Finished in burgundy with a biscuit leather interior, this TF was fully restored and is very well equipped with a pair of driving lights, whitewall tyres, wind wings, a rear-mounted luggage rack and a delightful wicker picnic basket. Everything on this car is nicely presented, from the detailed engine bay to the inviting cockpit. It was already restored when acquired by the current owner in Geneva over 20 years ago and has seen very little use since then. Now offered from a private Swiss-based collection, this MG is fully equipped with all weather gear and is a perfect weekend car for both country- and sea-side driving.
