Unveiled at Geneva in 1961, Jaguar’s E-Type was and continues to be one of the most capable and beautifully styled sports cars ever built. Later Series I examples with 4.2-litre engines are widely considered the most collectable, drivable and user-friendly. From its covered headlamps and the triple SU-carburetted, 265 hp DOHC XK “six” and fully synchronised gearbox, it has all the elements of style and performance drivers look for.

With its monocoque passenger compartment/tail section, tube-framed engine bay and competition-style tilting bonnet, the E-Type was clearly descended from the Le Mans-conquering D-Type, but its well-appointed interior and remarkably compliant suspension made it an ideal two-seat touring car and more than a worthy successor to the XK150.

According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, this original left-hand drive Series I Fixed Head Coupé was built on 6 October 1966, finished in black with a red interior – the same colour scheme in which it is presented today. It was shipped to the United States on 1 November 1966, and its first owner was Mr. Luis Marden of Arlington, Vermont. The number of its 4.2-litre six-cylinder engine was 7E 10455-9, the very same motor it has today. Offered from one of Switzerland’s preeminent car collections, this car comes with a Swiss Permis de Circulation. The vendor has informed us that the car is in excellent all-around operating condition.

The aforementioned JDHT certificate confirms the car’s original colours and matching numbers. In addition, the car comes with an Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook. A desirable, late-Series I Fixed Head Coupé, it is sure to enhance any fine collection of significant British motor cars.
