The Jaguar XK-140 was introduced in 1954 and produced for a short time, ending in 1956. As such, these vehicles are rather uncommon. Upgrades over its predecessor, the XK120, included improved braking capabilities, rack-and-pinion steering and modern tube-type shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design. The main visual modification of the XK140 over the XK120 is the more substantial front and rear bumpers and chrome accent trim on hood and trunk.

The XK140 is powered by a DOHC 210-cid, 190-hp inline six cylinder engine and mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Mechanically, the Jaguar is reported to be in good running order. It starts easily, resonates strongly and demonstrates excellent power. The transmission and clutch perform properly; the brakes seem to be recently serviced and are effective in operation. The car is said to have a tight suspension and the Jaguar tracks straight at speed. Jaguar service and restoration expert Steve Gordon was commissioned to do a mechanical inspection of the car and found the car to be in good overall mechanical condition.

The body is comparatively straight and solid with the bonnet, door and trunk fit in a most reasonable manner with few irregularities. The paint work was executed to a very high caliber and shows extremely well with virtually no scratches or chips. The chrome quality - inside and out - is extremely nice, with very minimal hazing from polish and no weathering or pitting. The wire wheels are said to be in outstanding condition. The windshield, side marker lights, headlights and taillights have all been replaced during the restoration process and look new. A new tan canvas top with restored side curtains has been fitted over a restored top frame. The car wears black Texas license plates from 1956 to complete the period correct appearance.

The underside is predominantly original and shows evidence of rust repairs in selected areas that are commonly known in this model of car. It is possible that damage was once done to the panel below the trunk, while the front of the Jaguar appears to have always remained straight and damage free.

This is a particularly handsome car that was sold new with the SE (Special Equipment) package. The car was built March 6, 1956 and shipped to the United States on March 16th and has been Stateside since then. The restoration work was completed around 2003 by Jeff Snyder of Jeff’s Resurrections; this included a repaint in white and the interior was finished in red leather with white accents, including the trunk to the same standards, using the same material as the door panels. This work resulted in the Jaguar winning a Regional Championship in the JCNA D-01 Driven Division in 2003 along with the Overall D-01 North American Concours Championships in 2004 and 2005. This beautiful and decorated JCNA car is eligible for numerous historic events and is representative of Jaguars trend-setting style of the 1950s.
