Offered here directly from KTM’s ownership is no ordinary KTM RC16 – this is the machine on which Brad Binder set a still-unbroken top-speed record in MotoGP. With a staggering 366.1 km/h on the 1.1 km start-finish straight of the Autodromo del Mugello in the 2023 Sprint race, Binder etched his name into the annals of motorsport history. This speed makes the RC16 the fastest officially recorded MotoGP machine ever – an impressive testament to its performance and aerodynamic excellence.
Technical Excellence – The KTM RC16
The KTM RC16 is the result of years of development and refinement by the KTM Factory Racing Team. No other than MotoGPTM -Legend Daniel Pedrosa has a massive influence on this bike’s performance thanks to his testing and development strategy support. Powered by a cutting-edge V4 engine with pneumatic valve train and an in-house developed six-speed seamless transmission, it combines raw power with precision and agility. Its aerodynamic efficiency (developed in close cooperation with Red Bull Advanced Technologies – the high-performance vehicle engineering division of Red Bull Racing Formula 1), additive-manufactured steel chassis, ride height device, front start device and electronic control systems make it one of the most competitive motorcycles on the track. The suspension is developed in-house by WP Suspension, emphasizing KTM’s dedication to technological independence. This motorcycle was designed and built in Austria by KTM and its affiliated technical partners. The carbon fiber swingarm, developed internally, enhances rigidity and control, while the Akrapovič full-titanium exhaust system, custom-designed for the RC16, optimizes power output and performance.
Brad Binder – A Rider of Exceptional Caliber
Brad Binder has established himself in recent years as one of the most fearless and talented riders in MotoGP. The South African began his career as a Red Bull MotoGPTM Rookie and quickly impressed with spectacular victories. In 2016, he crowned himself Moto3 World Champion with a dominant season before moving up to Moto2, where he finished as runner-up in the 2019 championship.
Since his move to MotoGP with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2020, Binder has repeatedly demonstrated that he has the potential to compete against the best riders in the world. In only his third MotoGPTM Grand Prix race, the debutant Binder won the Grand Prix in Brno (CZ) in 2020, securing KTM’s first-ever MotoGP victory – a historic moment for the Austrian factory team. His legendary GP win at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg 2021, where he masterfully stayed on slick tires in the rain, further cemented his status as a fearless competitor.
A Successful 2023 Season – Two Sprint Victories and multiple podiums
The 2023 season was one of Binder’s most successful in the premier class to date. With the introduction of the Sprint format, featuring an additional half-distance race on Saturdays, MotoGPTM became even more spectacular. Binder adapted perfectly to this format, securing two Sprint victories and seven Sprint podiums – a testament to his ability to extract the full potential from the KTM RC16. He also finished the year with five Grand Prix podiums, demonstrating his consistency and exceptional riding skill, ultimately securing fourth place in the overall MotoGP standings.
Binder’s first Sprint win of the season came in Argentina. Overcoming the discomfort of a neck issue that had limited his potential in Portugal, the South African qualified 15th on a weekend marred by low grip and unstable weather. In the 12-lap Sprint, Binder stormed from the fifth row, cutting through the field to seize the lead by lap three. He took the #33 to the top of the podium for the first time since his 2021 victory in Austria, making him only the second-ever Sprint winner in MotoGPTM history.
His second Sprint victory of the season came in Jerez, Spain. The 12-lap Sprint was a KTM spectacle, with Binder and teammate Jack Miller battling for the lead, never more than half a second apart. A decisive move into Turn 6 secured Binder’s second Sprint win of the season. In the Sunday Grand Prix, Binder led 18 of 24 laps, finishing just 0.2 seconds away from his first full-distance win of the season in second place. His first Grand Prix podium of the year placed him third in the championship standings.
He then secured more Grand Prix podiums in Le Mans (France), Silverstone (GB), at Red Bull Ring (Austria), Motegi (Japan), Buriram (Thailand) and in the season finale at Valencia (Spain). He finished the 2023 season in fourth place overall – to date his best MotoGP season result.
An Exclusive Collector’s Item for Enthusiasts and Connoisseurs
This KTM RC16 is not just a masterpiece of engineering but also a monument of racing history. For collectors, motorsport enthusiasts, or institutions looking to own a genuine piece of MotoGP heritage, this motorcycle represents an unparalleled opportunity.
This bike is a fully operational KTM Factory Racing MotoGPTM machine, offered as a display piece. Due to the specialized nature of modern MotoGPTM motorcycles – including pneumatic valve actuation and a mandatory unified ECU – independent private operation is not possible. Upon collection, the motorcycle will be started in the presence of the buyer. Any potential track use and service options can be discussed separately with KTM Factory Racing.
The opportunity to purchase a modern era racing machine (on two-wheels or four) just two years after being constructed and raced is truly unrepeatable. This bike’s history as being used by KTM across the 2023 season and in particular being piloted to MotoGP’s all-time top speed record cements its place in history as one of the most desirable motorcycles built in the 21st century.
