Big news in 1967 was the introduction of the all-new Camaro, Chevrolet’s answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. For 1967 the Camaro was offered as either a coupe or convertible, both of which were upgradable to Rally Sport (RS), Super Sport (SS), or Z28 trim levels. Like the Mustang, the Camaro’s most desirable variants have long been those equipped from the factory with high-performance options. Among the most sought-after specifications is a car from the first year of production equipped with both the RS and SS packages, just as the example offered here is. The RS package included hidden headlights with retractable doors, revised taillights with backup lights positioned below the bumper, RS badging, and exterior chrome trim. The SS package featured a 350-cubic-inch Turbofire V-8 engine rated at 295 horsepower, beefier suspension components, Firestone Wide Oval tires, SS emblems, bumblebee stripe up front, and simulated hood scoops.

This Camaro RS/SS Coupe was assembled in October 1966 and delivered new to Burwell Chevrolet in Spartanburg, South Carolina, finished in Bolero Red over black vinyl trim and equipped with a push-button radio, tinted windshield, wheel trim covers, a center console, the RS package, Deluxe interior package, and the SS package, with the desirable 350-cubic-inch Turbofire V-8 mated to the equally desirable Muncie four-speed manual transmission. The car was sold new on 31 July 1967 to Stephen C. Green of Fairforest, South Carolina.

Having benefited from a high-quality restoration under previous ownership, it has been certified by marque expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance as highly authentic, with factory-correct Bolero Red exterior, Black vinyl Deluxe interior, and retaining its numbers-matching engine and transmission along with the distinctive RS and SS factory features. The Turbofire engine is equipped with a chrome-capped single-snorkel air cleaner and correct Quadrajet carburetor. Power is routed to the rear wheels via the numbers-matching Muncie four-speed, which connects to a heavy-duty 12-bolt Positraction axle with 3.31:1 gears, supported by an F41 Sport Suspension, factory power steering, and power drum brakes. A dual exhaust system complements the Chevy Rallye wheels shod with D70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redline tires.

Having joined the esteemed collection of Ron and Sarah Jury in 2019, this fully restored 1967 Camaro RS/SS Coupe claimed an Antique Automobile Club of America Senior National First Prize in 2021, followed by a Grand National award in 2022. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by marque expert Jerry MacNeish in 2024.
