Jaguar’s Mark VII Saloon emerged in 1950, its development interrupted by World War II, as a significant leap forward, featuring a cruciform-braced chassis, torsion-bar independent front suspension, and hydraulic brakes all around. Powered by the 3.4-liter six-cylinder XK engine—already proven in the XK120 sports car—the Mark VII could easily exceed 100 mph despite its substantial size. The design evolved through the Mark VIIM and VIII models, culminating in the Mark IX's debut in 1958. By this time, the car was equipped with the powerful 3.8-liter XK engine delivering 220 horsepower, along with power-assisted steering and all-wheel disc brakes.

Motor magazine tested the Mark IX and achieved an impressive top speed of 114 mph while also praising its robust braking system. The report highlighted the car's capability to comfortably overtake vehicles at high speeds and to decelerate on a dry road from 100 to 30 mph within just 15 car lengths. Production of the Mark IX concluded in 1961, leaving a legacy of performance and innovation in Jaguar’s storied lineup.

The recipient of an extensive restoration, this Mark IX Saloon presents elegantly in a regal two-tone finish of dark blue over gray, complemented by a dark blue leather interior. Beneath its long hood is Jaguar’s esteemed double-overhead-camshaft 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine, which has been confirmed to retain its original cylinder head. Attesting to the exceptional quality of its restoration and the meticulous care it has received since, the Jaguar won the Antique Automobile Club of America Grand National award in 2017 and the Senior Grand National award in 2018. In 2023, Empire Automotive in Kansas City, Kansas overhauled the carburetors and fuel tanks and adjusted the clutch linkage. An invoice for the work is on file, along with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate.

Jaguar’s Mark IX, with its powerful performance, advanced brakes, and striking design, excels in vintage touring and concours displays, making this AACA Senior Grand National winner a captivating sight for enthusiasts and spectators alike.
