Originally installed in the 1930s to mark locations along the Circuit de la Sarthe, most such markers were either destroyed during accidents or removed for safety concerns. This particular example was placed at the 4.5-kilometer mark along the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, close to the famous L’Auberge des Hunaudieres restaurant. It is believed to be one of only several surviving examples, fewer still in private hands.
