Dennis Hoyt began his career carving wildlife figures out of driftwood but has since developed an aptitude for sculpting with a wide array of media. His first automotive piece was commissioned by Stirling Moss himself in 1986. Since then, Hoyt’s volume of work and notoriety has led to a number of top honors, including the Peter Helck Award, five Athena Awards of Excellence, and the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance Most Elegant Artwork Award.

Salut Gilles is a 72-inch tall, 47-inch long, three-dimensional piece designed as Hoyt’s tribute to Gilles Villeneuve, the Canadian Formula 1 driver who died in a fatal crash at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Dennis Hoyt’s output is very limited, and most originals reside in permanent private and gallery collections. Salut Gilles, one of Hoyt’s most sought-after pieces, is conceivably the sole major Hoyt sculpture to be offered in the foreseeable future.
