With its gorgeous covered headlights and seductive design, the Jaguar E-Type Series I was the design Enzo Ferrari once called “the most beautiful car ever made.” However, the sports car proved to be more than just another pretty face. Malcolm Sayer, E-type designer and aerodynamicist, applied aviation engineering to the body’s form, which resulted in a car that was faster, lighter and a superior performer to the competition. Introduced to critical acclaim at 1961’s Geneva Auto Show, the E-Type continues to be one of the most influential and imitated designs in automotive history forty-five years later. It is this iconic legacy that garnered the car a spot in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection – only the third automobile to receive the distinction.

The remarkable 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I Fixed Head Coupe presented here was recently restored to show/driver level by marque specialists Classic Showcase of Southern California. During restoration, the body was stripped to bare metal, metal finished, primed and sealed, and all body parts were painted individually off of the car and clear coated. They were then wet-sanded and buffed to a fabulous finish. Of course, all-new correct glass was installed, while the extensive brightwork was restored to show standards. All mechanical systems and components were restored or replaced. The engine, transmission and rear-end suspension were rebuilt to factory specifications. All systems including electrical, hydraulic, cooling and fuel were restored or replaced along with a new correct exhaust, battery and epoxy-sealed gas tank. It also has new rubber, seals, hardware and a complete new wire loom.

The silver body contrasts attractively with the sophisticated dark blue interior. The seats and trim have correct materials, which were tailored and fitted by the specialist team at Classic Showcase. A highly desirable model and a pristine example, this E-Type is ideal for a discriminating Jaguar collector’s collection.
