J.P. Seeburg Piano Co. (Chicago, Illinois)

Made in 1917, this beautiful Seeburg L Orchestra is one of only four examples known to exist. It is musically the same as the acclaimed Seeburg G but with one rank of pipes instead of two. The case has a rounded top, and the art glass is different from the G. J.P. Seeburg claimed that he designed it after seeing a lovely old country cupboard while traveling in England. It plays style G rolls and contains a piano with expression, a mandolin attachment, loudly-voiced piccolo pipes, bass drum with tympani effect, snare drum, cymbal and triangle. It was restored by D.C. Ramey Piano Co. circa 1980. The pipe-work and glass are original and in very well-preserved condition. This is believed to be the only Style L Orchestra ever offered at auction.
