The XK150 was Jaguar’s response to the demand for more comfortable and refined sport cars. The final iteration of Jaguar’s XK-series featured higher front wings, a wider grille, a curved one-piece windshield, and perhaps most significantly, Dunlop disc brakes at all four wheels. The low-cut door lines of the XK120 and 140 were discarded for a more conservative shape, whilst the basic XK chassis remained, albeit with an upgraded 3.4-litre twin-cam six as standard equipment. Inside, all models received a padded dash top, softer and wider seats and a windscreen that wrapped around the cockpit.

The 150 proved to be the most popular XK of all, with nearly 7,929 units built from 1957 through to the end of production in the calendar year of 1960. Roughly 75% of the cars were exported, proving the ever-increasing importance of the U.S. and other markets to Jaguar.

This XK150 was dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York and sold to its first owner, R.Y. Gibson of Prairie Village, Kansas, on 1st October 1958. Originally finished in Cotswold Blue with a matching blue soft top and red interior, it was later repainted to the striking red exterior with contrasting tan top and interior that it wears to this day. Additionally, it was upgraded from the standard 3.4-litre engine to the more powerful 3.8-litre unit.

It is clear from the condition of the car that it has been well maintained. The engine bay is clean and tidy, the trim is in very good condition and the performance is exhilarating, benefiting from the additional power afforded by Jaguar’s established 3.8-litre engine. With its chrome wire wheels and gorgeous presence, it is the perfect roadster with which to enjoy a sunny day along the coast.
