The Scout and Chief V-Twins, introduced in the early 1920's became Indians most successful models. Designed by Charles B. Franklin the middleweight Scout and the largest Chief shared a 42-degreee V Twin engine layout. Both models gained a reputation for strength and reliability. In 1950 the V twin engine was enlarged to 1300 cc (79 Cubic Inches) and telescopic forks were adapted to replace the aging Springer style front fork. At that time Indian was suffering from serious financial problems which meant that few motorcycles were built. Production of the Chief officially ended in 1953. Offered here is a numbers matching shining example of a low mileage, (2705 miles) Chief. A beautiful example of a rare 1951 Chief with Factory Rainbow paint. This bike would make a grand edition to any Indian collection.
