The Aintree International 200 was a major non-Championship Formula 1 race which saw all the top British teams compete for honours at the renowned Lancastrian circuit.
Driving a beautiful BRM P57, Hill’s main rivals were arguably Jim Clark and Jack Brabham. Handily, both cars suffered mechanical maladies, but Clark wasn’t done yet. Using a soon to be prohibited old rule, Clark swap cars for Trevor Taylor’s to leap frog back up the field during the race. Despite this, Hill’s dominating drive made victory a certainty with Innes Ireland finishing 15 seconds behind and the famous Scot a further 14 seconds down the road. This beautiful trophy was presented to Hill at the end of this race and has remained in the care of his family ever since.
