Driving one of BRM’s stunning P261s, adorned with its famous dayglow orange nose, Graham Hill was utterly dominant during the 1965 edition of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Hill had won the previous two editions of the race so he went into the weekend as a favourite. Despite qualifying on pole position, the race victory was far from certain as Brabham, Stewart, Bandini and Surtees all qualified within 0.7 seconds of Hill’s time. BRM teammates Hill and Stewart established a secure lead until Hill had to take an escape road to avoid a backmarker, then jumping out of his BRM to push it back. Now in 5th, Hill had little to lose and pursued the leaders, repeatedly breaking his own lap record several times. In a determined mood, Hill eventually made it back to the front and after 100 laps would finish an extraordinary 74 seconds ahead of Bandini’s Ferrari and Stewart in 3rd.

This beautiful glass trophy was awarded to Hill on the podium for clinching the fastest lap. The trophy has a repaired crack and emphatically serves as a wonderful reminder of “Mr. Monaco’s” extraordinary drive around the streets of Monte Carlo.
