The vehicle being offered, Australian M113A1 Fire Support Vehicle (FSV) is in original and unrestored condition. It is in excellent condition inside and out. The exterior paint is in very good to excellent condition as is the interior paint. All roadwheels and tracks are in very good condition. All exterior lighting appears complete. The smoke grenade launchers are present and have all of the protective covers. All interior components including ammunition racks and gunner's controls appear to be complete. The vehicle runs and drives normally. The turret rotates manually. Markings on this vehicle appear to be from the A Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment of the Australian Army as it served in Vietnam. This vehicle appeared on an episode of “MythBusters” in 2008.

The Australian Army developed the M113A1 FSV as an interim air portable armored fighting vehicle. Development began in late 1966/early 1967. A turret from a retired Saladin armored car was mated to the heavily modified roof of an M113A1. The M113A1's interior had all of the troop seats removed and a new false floor added under which 76-mm ammunition was stored. A support was mounted on the floor in order to carry electrical cables from the turret to the hull. Additional 76-mm ammunition racks were mounted in the hull sponsons. The original driver's hatch mounting had to be modified as it interfered with the turret. Other issues had to be rectified including the combining of U.S. and British electrical components.

Numerous trials took place over a period of three years before the vehicle was accepted into service. 15 vehicles, including the prototype, were converted from standard M113A1's. All of the conversions took place in Australia during 1970 and 1971. The first four M113A1 FSV's were deployed to Vietnam to support Australian ground forces in July/August 1971. Two more arrived later in the year, however they were all redeployed back to Australia by the end of 1971. The M113A1 FSV continued to see service with the regular Australian Army until 1979 and then finished up reserve service in 1986. During this time, another version of the FSV with a Scorpion tank turret, replaced it.
