The tank being offered, AMX-13 model 51/75 serial number 1657, was delivered in June 1959. Nothing is known of its service history. Its exterior appears to be original and is in good shape. The tracks and sprockets are in excellent condition. The track support rollers are in good condition. The interior of the vehicle is all original and appears to be complete. The dashboard is complete and serviceable. The driver's controls appear to function normally. The turret rotates fine. The engine is present, but is non-operational and requires a rebuild. Some spare vehicle equipment is included including jacks, spare roadwheel and track pads.

Designed in 1946 by the Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux (AMX), the AMX-13 met a requirement for an air-transportable tank for use with paratroop units. The first prototype was tested in 1948. The AMX-13 used a torsion bar suspension with five roadwheels and two track support rollers per side. The driver sat at the left front of the tank with the engine on his right mounted lengthwise in the hull. The tank was equipped with a unique, two-part oscillating turret mounted on the rear of the hull. It was crewed by a gunner and commander and is equipped with an auto-loader. The main armament was the 75-mm CN-75-50. The CN-75-50 was based on the World War II German 7.5-cm KwK 42 cannon that was mounted on the Panther tank. This provided the AMX-13 with a potent tank-killing weapon on a very light vehicle.

The AMX-13 was accepted into production in 1952 with the first ones entering service in 1953. In 1966, they began to be upgraded with a 90-mm gun while export models with a 105-mm gun were made available beginning in the early 1970s. Production of the AMX-13 ended in 1987 with approximately 7,700 of all types being built. Over 4,300 of these were used by the French military. Exported to more than 25 countries, the AMX series is still in service with several of them including Ecuador, Singapore and Venezuela.

The AMX-13 has seen action in several wars including the 1956 Suez War, the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War and the French actions in Algeria.
